Boys basketball player Brady Dunlap ’23 announced his decommitment from The University of Notre Dame on Jan. 24 in an Instagram post. Dunlap initially committed to the university Sept. 22, 2022.

Dunlap said his decision was based on Notre Dame men’s basketball Head Coach Mike Brey’s retirement.

“Due to the announcement of Coach Brey’s retirement, I have requested my release from Notre Dame and will open my recruitment,” Dunlap said in the post. “I want to wish Coach Brey well and thank Coach Antoni Wyche for all of his efforts in recruiting me.”

Brey announced he would step down after the end of the 2022-2023 season Jan. 19. Brey is the winningest coach in the 119-year history of Notre Dame men’s basketball.

Dunlap, a 6’7” small forward and four-star recruit who is ranked 80th in the 2023 ESPN 100, initially chose Notre Dame over San Diego State University, The University of Minnesota, The University of Colorado, Pepperdine University, Rice University and others. He scored 20 points in the Wolverines’ 72-52 win over Sierra Canyon High School on Friday.
