The boys’ varsity basketball team came out victorious in an overtime thriller in the Palos Verdes tournament finals on Saturday, defeating Mira Costa 80-77 to win the tournament for the second straight year.
Forward Derick Newton ’14 led the Wolverines in scoring with 30 points, followed by guard Mike Sheng ’14, who scored 18 points and added five assists.
The team reached the finals after defeating Lawndale Saturday morning. Now with a record of 6-2, the boys will next compete in the Desert Heat Classic, their final tournament before beginning league play, on Dec. 26.
