The varsity boys’ basketball team narrowly defeated New York school Cardinal Hayes 71-69 in the first round of the MaxPreps Holiday Classic on Wednesday.
Guard Mike Sheng ’14 led the Wolverines in scoring with 24 points in the team’s first game of the national tournament at Cathedral City High School.
The team is now 7-2 on the season, and will face Seattle school Rainier Beach today. The MaxPreps Holiday Classic is the team’s final tournament before beginning league play at Crespi on Jan. 4.
