Two wins in two days this week extended the varsity field hockey team’s record to 3-0 since the start of the 2013 campaign, as the Wolverines defeated Huntington Beach 3-1 and Fountain Valley 7-0 on Sept. 10 and 11 respectively. The team opened its season with a 6-1 victory over Marina, sparking its three game winning streak.
The field hockey team elevated its confidence with the narrow but coveted win over Huntington Beach, as the Wolverines redeemed themselves for their loss to the Oilers in last year’s Los Angeles Field Hockey Association Championship finals.
In the team’s latest win, the Wolverines dominated on both ends of the field – while Fountain Valley failed to break through the Harvard-Westlake defense and goaltending for a goal, the Wolverines were able to take and secure the lead with seven unanswered goals. Caitlin Neapole ’16 and Maddie Oswald ’15 led the team in scoring with two and three goals respectively.
Looking to keep their undefeated streak going, the Wolverines will have another set of back-to-back games next week, as they’ll head to Westminster Sept. 18 before returning home to face Newport Sept. 19.
