The field hockey team lost its first home league game of the season 2-0 against Bonita High School on Thursday, moving the team’s overall record to 6-1. This is the squad’s first loss in three seasons.

Sarina Smolev ’22 said she attributes the team’s loss to the pressure to perform well at the game.

“[We] felt a lot of pressure to perform well, and we weren’t able to focus on playing well as a team,” Smolev said.

Juliet Katz ’23 maintained a positive outlook and said that while the loss was disappointing, she is confident it will serve as a motivator in future games.

“Even the best teams lose sometimes, and I believe these losses will help our team grow stronger,” Katz said. “While [our recent loss] loss is hard to take, it will give us the motivation to win as we tackle future playoffs. Our mindset is always to support one another, have fun and improve. We will continue to work hard and maintain a growth mindset as we push forward with future games.”

The team’s next game is on Oct. 1 against Edison High School.
