Sports magazine and website Baseball America recently named former Wolverine standout Max Fried ’12 one of its Midwest League Top 20 Prospects.
The left-handed Fried scored a number eight ranking for his pitching in the San Diego Padres organization. Fried put up 7.6 strikeouts per game this past season on the Fort Wayne Tin Caps, the second-best rate among starters in the Midwest League.
Fried was drafted seventh overall by the Padres in the 2012 draft and spent his first season on the organization’s Rookie league team and this past season in Low-A. For its report, Baseball America talked to an American League scout about Fried.
“I don’t think he’ll take long. He’ll shoot through the minors,” the scout said in his report. “He doesn’t have all that much to work on.”
