Despite cutting down a 20 point lead to seven in the fourth quarter, the boys’ varsity basketball team could not follow up its opening game comeback victory with a sequel, ultimately falling to Santa Monica 85-73 Wednesday night.
The Wolverines exchanged blows with the Vikings throughout the first half but conceded a 7 point deficit at halftime. Coming out of the half, the Vikings broke the game open, outscoring the Wolverines 25-9 in the third quarter. While Harvard-Westlake fought back to 78-71 in the fourth and won the quarter scoring-wise 30-22, the gap nevertheless proved to be to large for the Wolverines to overcome.
Now 1-1 on the season and in the Santa Monica Tournament, the Wolverines will continue competition in the tournament Friday against an opponent to be determined.
