Following a 3-2 overall finish at the Desert Heat Classic tournament over winter break, the boys’ varsity basketball team could not hang on in a back-and-forth Mission League opener against Crespi Wednesday, falling to the Celts 79-72 in the its first home game of the season.
The two sides traded leads throughout the first half, though the Wolverines ultimately headed into the intermission ahead 35-30. The Wolverines failed to hold off the Celts, however, as Crespi would seize a two-point lead at the end of the third quarter, which they would build upon – extending their lead to 11 at one point – and not give up for the remainder of the game.
Now 7-7 after Wednesday’s loss, the Wolverines will look to bounce back in their second league game at Notre Dame and avoid dropping below .500 for the second time this season.
