In a down-to-the-wire matchup Monday night, the boys’ varsity basketball team scraped out its second straight Mission League win with a 64-63 victory over St. Francis.
The two sides traded leads throughout most of the matchup, but the Wolverines held on thanks to the efforts of Derick Newton ’14, Alex Copeland ’15 and Michael Sheng ’14,who were the team’s top scorers with 23 points, 15 points and 13 points respectively.
Now 9-7 on the season and 2-1 in league play, the Wolverines will head to Chaminade and Alemany Jan. 15 and 17 respectively before returning home to face rival Loyola Jan. 24, the team’s first game against the Cubs in Taper Gymnasium since 2011.
