Boys’ basketball guard Alex Copeland ’15 and forward Derick Newton ’14 were named All-Mission League First-Team members last week for their play during the 2013-2014 season. Newton was selected to the All-CIF Division 4AA team as well.
Newton and Copeland were the team’s top scorers this past season, averaging 19.7 and 16.9 points per game respectively. They along with guard Michael Sheng ’14 led the Wolverines in their CIF playoff run, which ended with a down-to-the-wire 62-59 loss to Buckley in the third round. Newton logged 34 points in the team’s second round victory over Maranatha and 24 in the elimination loss. Copeland scored 24 points in the second round but was limited to ten points in the third.
With the graduation of Newton and Sheng, Copeland will look to step into the role of primary scorer and facilitator for the 2014-2015 season.
