Daniela Grande ’16, Alyse Tran ’18 and Mia Reilly ’18 all qualified to be on teams as a part of the Futures Olympic development program.
All three participated in the National Futures Championship tournament. Grande competed in the U19 group and Reilly and Tran were in the U16 group. Both groups consisted of twelve teams of girls chosen from all over the country to play against each other.
Tran’s team came in fifth place and Reilly’s lost in a shootout during the semifinals. Both were named to the U16 Regional Futures Elite Team afterwards, which will meet every few months to train within California.
“It’s great that both Alyse [Tran] and I made it,” Reilly said. “Getting the extra training with the top players from the region will help us improve.”
Grande’s team received a silver medal after losing in the finals on July 1.
“I didn’t expect to qualify for nationals, so I was just happy to be there,” Grande said. “The fact that my team made it that far was very exciting. It made me realize my potential compared to the fast paced, high level play on the East Coast.”
