After losing to the Eagles 7-3 in both teams’ Mission League openers, the Wolverines returned the favor, defeating Chaminade 8-0 at O’Malley Family Field.
With highly touted MLB draft prospect Blake Rutherford ’16 in the spotlight in this series, dozens of scouts were on hand in the first two games. However, McCabe Slye ’16 completely shut down Rutherford and the entire Eagles’ lineup in the Wolverines’ first league home game, throwing a complete game two-hitter.
Offensively, the Wolverines were lifted by Leo Kaplan ’16 who went 3-4 with a double and two RBIs. Cameron Deere ’16 also sparked the offense with a home run, two RBIs and three walks.
The Wolverines will attempt to win the series in the rubber match this Friday at Chaminade at 3:30 p.m.
