The Harvard-Westlake baseball team defeated Westlake 6-4 in a play-in game for the CIF-SS Division I playoffs.
The Wolverines, who began the game with a 6-0 cushion after the first inning, were led by ace Jesse Bergin ’18 who threw six innings with five strikeouts. Nico Mannucci ’17 got the save, striking out two.
John Thomas ’16 and Casey Slattery ’17 had two RBIs each, while Cameron Deere ’16 and Julian Girod ’16 also drove in one run apiece. Leo Kaplan ’16 finished the day with two hits of his own.
Harvard-Westlake will face J.W. North on Fri. at 3:15 p.m. in the first round of the playoffs. The last time these two teams met was in the 2014 playoffs, when Jack Flaherty ’14 no-hit the Huskies in the first round.
