FIFPro announced Ali Riley ’06’s selection to the player-elected Womens’ World XI shortlist on Wednesday. Riley, an outside back for Sweden’s FC Rosengård, appeared in the Summer Olympics last year, playing for New Zealand’s national team.
“Simply being mentioned in the same sentence as these two feels like a dream, let alone being nominated alongside them,” Riley wrote on Instagram, referring to her Rosengård teammates Marta da Silva and Lotta Schlein, who also made the shortlist. “Thank you to @fifpro_official for continuing to push for equality and making a #WomensWorldXI possible in the first place. “
The selection is Riley’s first. Drawing from the shortlist, FIFPro will announce the Women’s World XI on March 15.
