Girls soccer has continued their 16-0-6 undefeated season into the playoffs, beating San Clemente High School and Santiago Corona High School, advancing them to the CIF SS DI quarter finals against Cypress High School on Feb. 12.
The team’s game against Santiago Corona on Friday was sent into first overtime after remaining 0-0 through regulation. First and second overtime continued this scoreless trend, forcing the teams to face off in penalty kicks
The Wolverines’ won the game 5-4 through penalty kicks by Whitney Elson ’19, Natalie Barnouw ’21, Olivia Bautista ’19, Madelyn Kirschenbaum ’21 and Nicole Smith ’19, with three saves by goalkeeper Devon Carmel ’21.
Their game in the first round against San Clemente was won 1-0 following a goal by Sophia Haynes ’21 in the second minute of the match.
Last year the squad was defeated in the second round of the CIF playoffs by Upland High School. Friday night, Cypress defeated Upland 2-1 in their second round game of the playoffs, capping their record off at 15-4-8.
Harvard-Westlake’s 16-0-6 undefeated season has already produced a Mission League Title, as they battle to add a CIF title to their list of accomplishments.
