Girls’ soccer defeated Carlsbad High School 3-2 in overtime tonight in round one of the CIF Regional Tournament, capping their record off at 18-1-6.
The Wolverines’ first two goals came during the second half from midfielder Whitney Elson ’19 and forward Daniela Quintero ’22. The Lancers also scored two goals in the second half, sending the game to overtime, where the Wolverines came out on top due to a goal by midfielder Kerry Neil ’19.
The squad entered the tournament as the sixth-seeded team, making their win tonight an upset over the third-seeded Lancers.
The team will play in the semi-finals of the CIF Regional Tournament on Feb. 28 against the second-seeded Los Alamitos High School. The Wolverines lost to Los Alamitos 3-0 on Feb. 16 in the CIF Southern Section Division I semi-finals, ending their previously undefeated season.
If the squad wins the upcoming semi-final game, they will play in the CIF Regional Tournament championship against the winner of the other semi-final game between top-seeded JSerra Catholic High School and fourth-seeded Academy of Our Lady of Peace.
