Boys’ Water Polo defeated Palos Verdes High School 13-4 today, continuing their unbeaten streak this season.

The team had a strong defensive performance in the first quarter and shut out the Sea Kings. In addition, center Mot Stothart ’20 provided the Wolverines with two of their three first quarter goals. Attacker Shay Gillearn ’21 credits the first quarter shut out to pre-game preparation.

“We have been preparing for their offensive game plan and we executed very well today,” Gillearn said.

The squad continued its strong start and finished the half up by a score of 7-1.

In the second half, the Wolverines continued to maintain their lead, scoring six more goals and winning the match by a score of 13-4. The game marked the squad’s closest game so far this season.

The currently 4-0 Wolverines will travel to Notre Dame High School on Sept. 18 in a Mission League match and will play in the South Coast Tournament from Sept. 19 to Sept. 21. Defender Len Korol ’21 says the squad will focus on their improvement heading into the South Coast Tournament.

“Heading into South Coast, our main focus is to improve,” Korol said. “As a whole, the team has put a huge emphasis on maintaining effort and striving to try and reach our potential. South Coast provides us with a great opportunity to compete against good programs and test our abilities.”
