To celebrate Senior Night, the field hockey team shut out Glendora High School 4-0.
Game Breakdown
The Wolverines were slow to start the game. They struggle to capitalize off of fast breaks until Ella Ganocy ’22 scored from the edge of the shooting circle. Then, Captain and Midfielder Rachel Brown ’20 extended the lead with another Wolverine goal. Going into halftime, the team led 2-0 due to Natalie Barnouw’s ’21 defensive stops. In the second half, the team was able to rotate in players throughout its depth chart, so that even the goalie, Caroline Sturgeon ’20 was able to play midfielder.
Offense
The offense started to dominate the game when they connected on passes, Sarina Smolev ’22 said.
“The offense capitalized on opportunities by transferring the ball across the field really well with strong and accurate passes,” Smolev said.
Celebrating the Seniors
This was the seniors last regular season home game.
“[The team] celebrated [the seniors] being on the team for the past few years,” Smolev said.
Defensive Assistance
The team was able to shut out Glendora due to Barnouw’s improving health.
“The defense is very strong now that Natalie is back, and she always makes sure the opposing team can’t get close enough to our goal to score,” Smolev said.
The Wolverine’s next game is at Westlake High School on Wednesday.
