Track and field compete in Mission League prelims

By Julius Pak

A school record was broken by the track and field team in the Mission League preliminary round May 14 at Los Angeles Valley College. Lauren Hansson ’11 broke a school record for the thirteenth time when she captured the record in the girls’ 200-meter dash, a record she had previously broken two weeks ago during a dual meet against Marymount, with a time of 25.01 seconds.

Hansson also won the 400-meter dash at the league prelims. In that same event, Rebecca Moretti ’13 placed 13th.

In a race that resembled results from a cross country meet earlier this year, Cami Chapus ’12 and Amy Weissenbach ’12 delivered top-two finishes in the 800-meter event. Fellow long distance runner Yasmin Moreno ’13 followed in fifth place. Judd Liebman ’12 and David Manahan ’14, also members of the cross country team, placed eighth and ninth in the boys’ division.

Current school record-holder for the 100-meter dash Hilary King ’11 took second in that event. Maddy Morency ’12 and Efe Agege ’14 placed ninth and eleventh in that event.

Mt. San Antonio College champion pole vaulter Ben Gaylord ’13 ran the boys’ 100-meter dash, placing 12th. In the 200-meter dash, Danilo Dragovic ’11 and Noor Fateh ’11 finished tenth and thirteenth. Both also competed in the 400-meter event, taking seventh and fifteenth places, respectively. Ben Saunders ’11 ran the same event, finishing in fifth place.
