The baseball team defeated Chaminade 5-2 in the first matchup of a three-game set, advancing its record to 3-1 in league play (8-1 overall).
Ace right-hander Jesse Bergin ’18 bounced back from a difficult performance last week, surrendering two runs over four innings and tallying the win. Nico Manucci ’17 notched the save, his second of the league season.
“[Bergin]’s just coming back, so I think that him getting on the mound is going to be better the more he does it, because he’s just coming off of that time off,” head coach Jared Halpert said. “His stuff is a little better today, his command was a little better today, and obviously his personal performance is better today.”
All seven of the game’s total runs were scored in the third inning, as the Wolverines answered Chaminade’s two-run top of the inning with a five-run bottom. Although Chaminade advanced runners into scoring position in each of the last two frames, Manucci and reliever Mikey Golob ’19 were able to pitch out of their respective jams.
The series will continue tomorrow at O’Malley Family Field.
