Field hockey shutout Westlake High School 6-0 on Senior Night to win league and finish the regular season with an undefeated 17-0 record. This is the third consecutive year that the squad has won the league title and second year in a row that the team has finished the regular season with an undefeated record.
“It feels amazing [to win league],” team captain Sydney Pizer ’19 said. “It’s truly the culmination of our hard work and I’m so incredibly proud of us.”
Defender Scarlett Strasberg ’20 also praised the team’s effort as instrumental in winning league.
“It is a legacy and this is a program that has been progressively improving and it shows in our winning of league,” Strasberg said.
Team captains Isabella Huang ’19, Cypress Toomey ’19 and Pizer along with other seniors Bella Guanche ’19 and Emily Wesel ’19 were congratulated before the game in honor of their last home game as a Wolverine.
“The seniors have been like parents or I guess role models and leaders for us,” defender Iris Huang ’21 said. “They are extremely helpful to [the players] on and off the field.”
The first playoff game for the Wolverines is scheduled for Tuesday but their opponent has yet to be determined. Huang said that the team has a strategy as they head into playoffs.
“Our coach has told us many times that we need to start off faster and at our own pace so that we can confidently get through the game and do our best,” Huang said.
