Girls’ track and field team finishes third overall, four advance at CIF Finals

At CIF Finals on May 18, the girls’ track and field team took third in its division, and four track and field athletes placed high enough to take part in CIF Masters.

Ben Gaylord ’13, Lizzy Thomas ’14, Alex Florent ’15, and Courtney Corrin ’16 will compete at CIF Masters this Friday, May 24 at Cerritos College. To qualify for Masters, Gaylord placed second at CIF Finals in pole-vaulting, Thomas took fourth in the girls’ 3200 meter race, Florent finished second in the girls’ high jump, and Corrin won the girls’ long jump and took second in the girls’ triple jump at Finals. Corrin set a CIF division record with a long jump of 20-feet, 9 inches.

The girls’ team’s collective scores lifted it to third place in CIF Division III.

CIF Masters is the final and highest level of CIF competition. Should the competing Wolverines qualify, they’d next head to State Competition on May 31.
