Animal Rights Club raises money for WWF

Animal Rights Club hosted a bake sale Jan. 10 to raise money for the World Wildlife Fund. Students raised money by selling homemade baked goods, which went directly towards helping endangered species around the world.

The World Wildlife Fund aims to ensure that the importance of nature is kept in mind in both local and global policy, while funding and connecting conservation scientists to help slow and prevent extinction, according to their website.

Animal Rights Club leader Olivia Suddleson ’24 said they are using the proceeds from the bake sale to help provide funds and resources for specific endangered species of their choice.

“We’re going to symbolically adopt animals so that they can have resources for their habitats,” Suddleson said. “Hopefully [we can] slow down the extinction process or prevent it.”

Mia Ushiba ’26, who donated, said the club’s creative stand on the quad was what initially piqued her curiosity.

“The first thing that caught my eye was the fact that there were two people in onesies and they had Animal Rights Club on their shirts,” Ushiba said. “It really intrigued me to buy some baked goods to support the cause.”

Suddleson said supporting the World Wildlife Fund allows her to help animals that do not have the ability to advocate for themselves.

“[Donating] makes me feel really good,” Suddleson said. “I love animals, and it’s really cool to help. It’s like helping people that can’t help themselves in a way, which is important to me.”
