The boys’ basketball team lost to Notre Dame High School 59-54 at home, snapping their 18-game win streak in league play that dated back to the 2022-2023 season. Senior guard Mercy Miller, a four-star recruit committed to play basketball at the University of Houston, scored a game-high 29 points for the Knights, followed by senior guard Trent Perry ’24 with 22 points for the Wolverines. The team picked up their second loss on the season and their first loss in Mission League play, now with an overall record of 20-2 with a league record of 3-1.

The Wolverines started the game on a 21-10 run in the first quarter, shooting 5-6 from three and forcing two early timeouts from Notre Dame. However, despite exiting the first quarter down seven points, the Knights were able to gain momentum and tied the game in the second quarter.

Although the game was still tied 44-44 through three quarters, the Wolverines seemed out of rhythm on both sides of the ball. After the first quarter, players were turning the ball over frequently and taking low-percentage shots. On the defensive side, they could not contain Miller for the Knights, who kept scoring despite being double-teamed.

Eventually, Notre Dame pulled away in the fourth, going on a 7-2 run to start the quarter. The Wolverines came within one point, but they could not execute on offense to take the lead. The Knights would win the game 59-54, staying undefeated this season with an overall record of 21-0 and a league record of 4-0. Notable starters Robert Hinton ’24 and Nik Khamenia ’25 only had nine points and seven points respectively.

The team looks to bounce back on Friday, where they will face Sierra Canyon High School on the road. The Wolverines are currently third in the Mission League standings, behind Sierra Canyon and Notre Dame.
