UCLA medical researchers presented evidence of the link between athlete diet and health at an assembly Monday during break.
The researchers, who studied the effects of diet on members of the girls’ volleyball team and field hockey team, concluded that the diet implemented during the study increased the muscle mass of participating athletes while decreased fat.
Director of Sports Medicine Milo Sini said that members of the field hockey team were used as the control group as players were tracked over the course of the season without changing their diet. The members of the volleyball team changed their diet and noticed relatively larger muscle mass after the season.
“The results were very promising,” Sini said. “We really like the people involved.”
