The girls’ volleyball team lost its season-opener against Lakewood High School in three sets by a score of 25-18, 25-9, 25-18 Aug. 25.
The Wolverines hung around in the first set, but were unable to pull away with it.

The squad faced a strong non-league opponent in Lakewood High School, and although the Wolverines succeeded on offense, blocking and defense came through as weak points in the squad’s first game.
“Obviously, it was a tough loss but I think it was actually a huge learning experience for us because it was a bit of a wake-up call and it really exposed our weaknesses as a team so we know what we need to work on in practice,” team captain Pearl Accord ’17 said. “I think playing Lakewood right off the bat this season was one of the smartest decisions because it really really shows us what we need to work on and motivates all of us for the rest of the season.”

The Wolverines’ next contest will be an away, non-league match against Santa Barbara High School Aug. 30. The team first league game is away against Notre Dame High School on Sept. 8.
