After losing two consecutive games, the football team defeated La Salle on Senior Night, 53-23.
The defensive line stepped up and held La Salle without a first down until late in the first quarter. David Rich ’18 pressured the quarterback all first half, including a sack on two consecutive plays. The Wolverines managed to keep La Salle from scoring all throughout the first quarter and held them to only six points in the second half.
During the second quarter, La Salle scored two touchdowns to take the lead at 14-7 with ten minutes left in the first half, but the Wolverines quickly tied the score before pulling away from the Lancers to go up 20-17 at the half.
The Wolverines dominated defensively all throughout second half, only giving up six points and forcing five turnovers in the half alone, including three interceptions, one pick-six and one fumble returned for a touchdown by left tackle and defensive lineman Liam Douglass ’18.
Wang suffered a blow to the head in the third quarter and went back to the locker room to get checked on by the training staff. While Wang was gone, halfback and slot receiver Thomas Glover ’18 and backup Marshall Howe ‘21 saw snaps at quarterback.
The year’s 8-2 team has greatly improved since last year’s team that went winless in league play. Jameson Wang ’20 has emerged as a talented dual-threat quarterback. With 15 rushing touchdowns and over 20 passing, Wang leads the team in not just passing yards but also rushing yards.
In winning this game, the team secured the third seed in the playoffs and will play its first playoff game at home.
