Girls’ basketball beat Clovis North on Dec. 24 to win the Harvard-Westlake Holiday Classic 60-55 after an undefeated tournament.
The Wolverines had a great start to their season with a record of 4-1 heading into the tournament. After defeating five schools in the holiday classic, they have a record of 9-1.
Center Kiki Iriafen ’21, forward Jayda Rufus-Milner ’18 and forward Jayla Rufus-Milner ’18 were named to the All-Tournament team.
This tournament is a good representation of the season, according to guard Ella Price ’20.
“The season has been very successful and the holiday classic reflected our successes thus far,” Price said. “We have grown as a team and learned to play together as a unit rather than just individuals.”
For Iriafen, freshman and seniors playing together well made all the difference.
“Us three freshman are getting used to playing at such a competitive level and the seniors are a huge help in mentally preparing us for what’s in store,” Iriafen said
Guard and captain Ashlee Wong ’18 reflected on the team’s success in this game and the season thus far.
“The most important part to our success has been the team’s ability to share the ball well and find the open player,” Wong said. “Our coach says how selfless each one of us is and it’s because we are so team oriented, no one really cares about individual stats. We all want to win and that’s what’s important.”
