The boys’ basketball team dropped a league game, 78-76, in overtime at Alemany on Monday night.
Minus guard Johnny Juzang ’20, the team’s scoring mainly revolved around Mason Hooks ’20, who scored 33 points.
The score remained close throughout the first half, the score tied at halftime. The Warriors managed to pull away in the fourth quarter with a 9 point lead before the Wolverines caught up.
Guard Spencer Hubbard ’20 sunk a 3 point shot with one second left on the clock, tying the game at 66-66, giving the Wolverines a chance to win in overtime.
Low on players after senior guard Simon Pompan ’18 and Hubbard ’20 fouled out in overtime, the Wolverines were unable to defend the Warriors when it counted. The Wolverines had crucial steals but it wasn’t enough against Alemany’s high shooting percentage.
“With a few players fouling out, we knew we had to play as hard as we could and be as aggressive as we could,” Hooks said. “[We] just fell a little short.”
The Wolverines will prepare to play Loyola on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
“We can’t wait for the Loyola game,” Hooks said. “It’s a chance to bounce back from a tough loss and you can bet we’ll be ready.”
