For the first time, the Harvard-Westlake middle school sponsored a trip to Washington D.C.
Thirty one students traveled with middle school history teachers Matthew Cutler, Lilas Lane and George Gaskin as chaperones.
The middle school history department created this trip to complement the new seventh grade class this year entitled American History and Government.
“We wanted the students to marvel at and to be inspired by visiting the nation’s capital and seeing up close many of the things they’re learning about in class,” Gaskin said.
The trip took place during the first week of spring break from March 28 to April 2.
“I think the trip was a great success, and I intend to make this an annual event for seventh graders,” Gaskin said.
