Girls basketball beat Serra today 67-60 in the first round of the Open Division CIF Playoffs to advance to the semifinals. Guard Ashlee Wong ’18 said she was pleased to get the win.
“We knew coming into the game that we had a great shot at winning, and we are excited to move on to the next round,” Wong said.
The team began the game strong going up 22-13 after the first quarter but that lead soon went away and the team trailed by one point heading into the fourth quarter.
The team finished with a regular season record of 22-4 and came into the game after defeating Chaminade on Feb. 8 to win the Mission League.
Currently the team is on an eight game win streak with their last loss coming against Centennial on Jan. 15 in the St. Mary’s Shootout tournament. Wing Ella Price ’20 said that the team needs to focus as they advance farther into the playoffs.
“It feels great to get a win in the playoffs but this is the time in the season when we can’t make any mistakes,” Price said. “We need to do everything the best we can. Every little thing matters.”
The Wolverines are scheduled to play their next game on Feb. 24 against Etiwanda at Cal Baptist in the semifinals of CIF playoffs.
