Eight students from the Model United Nations club traveled to Washington D.C. to attend the Northern American Invitational Model United Nations conference Feb. 15-18.

Over 3,300 high school delegates from the United States, China and England competed at the conference and students from Georgetown University, where the conference was hosted, acted as the conference’s committee chairs.

The conference included both dual and single delegation committees, meaning that in some committees only one person represented a country, while in others, two people represented a single country. 

Although the club didn’t win any awards at this conference, club Vice President William Evans ’19 said that the team focused less on receiving awards and more on improving their skills.

“For me, HWMUN isn’t really about winning so much as it is about the experience,” Evans said. “While we do often perform well at tournaments, such as when we won the best club at LAIMUN, a tournament with over 1000 total delegates to which we sent 13 [club members], winning really isn’t the priority.”

As a new member of the MUN team, Chronicle staff writer Kyra Hudson ’20 said she felt that the conference was a great learning opportunity.

“It was a really incredible experience, and I learned so much from the upperclassmen and had a lot of fun while doing it,” Hudson said. “The conference itself definitely taught me a lot more about MUN in general, and it was also really great to be able to bond more with the whole team while in D.C.”
