The girls’ basketball team lost at home to Sierra Canyon High School 68-61 and now have an overall record of 0-2.
Last season, the Trailblazers were crowned CIF State Girls Basketball champions in the Open Division and had an overall record of 33-1.
The Game
The Wolverines had a slow start to the game and were down 10-1 with 4:31 left in the first quarter. At the end of the quarter, the squad managed to score three more baskets and found themselves down 17-7. Sierra Canyon girls basketball starting off right where they left off
Despite success from the free throw line in the second quarter, the Wolverines found themselves down 31-19 heading into the third quarter.

The squad capitalized on second chance opportunities in the third quarter and finished the quarter down 46-35. Ultimately, the team could not maintain a comeback in the fourth quarter, losing the game 68-61. Girls Basketball

Overall, the game was very physical, with two players fouling out for the Trailblazers along with three players for the Wolverines finishing with four fouls. Forward Okikiola Iriafen ‘21 finished with 27 points, guard Krista Semaan ’21 finished with 12 points, and guard Melissa Zozulenko ‘21 had 11 points off the bench. Three players managed to finish the game with double digit point totals for the Trailblazers.
The next game for the girls basketball team is at home against Lynwood High School Nov. 26. Semaan described the squad’s mentality heading into this matchup.
“We want to go into the game with the mindset that no matter what team they are we are going to fight our hardest from the start and play as a team,” Semaan said.
