Auditions for the musical production of âLes Misérables,â produced by Performing Arts teacher Christopher Moore and directed by Performing Arts teachers Michele Spears and Ted Walch, will begin today at 3:30 p.m. in the choral room.
Students are required to prepare 18 bars of music from any established Broadway musical for todayâs vocal auditions. Singers should be familiar with all the material in the audition packet, as those who are called back will be asked to perform songs from âLes Misérables.â
Everyone trying out needs to attend tomorrowâs dance auditions at 3 p.m. However, those trying out do not need to prepare a dance routine.
Audition packets were distributed in May and e-mails were sent out in June, giving students all summer to prepare for the auditions.
Based on Victor Hugoâs novel, âLes Misérablesâ portrays the lives of French citizens during the pre-revolutionary years.
Inspired by the life of Eugène François Vidocq, Hugo examines the struggles of protagonist Jean Valjean during these turbulent times.
With a new condensed script, Moore feels the musical is manageable for a high school production and will accommodate a large talented cast. Although Moore has never produced this musical before, he is excited for the auditions and anticipates a large turnout.
âIâm really excited to audition for the musical,â Berni Barta â10 said. âI love the music and the story.âÂ
Rehearsal will begin next Monday.
