Football not likely to advance to playoffs after loss tonight

By Luke Holthouse

The playoff hopes of the
varsity football team took a big hit as they fell 70-21 against Serra
on Nov. 4. The Wolverine’s record fell to 1-3 in the Mission League, essentially
eliminating their chances of advancing to

Head Coach Vic Eumont said before the game that only three of the six
teams in the Mission League will likely make playoffs and, even if the Wolverines win next week, they will most likely not finish in the top three.

Down 28-14 with under a minute left in the first half, Correy King ’13
scored a rushing touchdown that bridged the gap to one possession. But
Serra quickly answered, adding a touchdown of their own before the end
of the half, extending the lead back to 14.

The Wolverines were outscored 42-7 in the second half.

“I think we were really disheartened after the touchdown at the end of
the first half,” receiver Clinton Hooks ’13 said. “That was rough and we
just never really quite got it going again after that.”

Chris Sebastian ’13 scored on a short touchdown pass in the first quarter and Julian Shabahang ’14 added
a touchdown 66-yard pass from quarterback Chad Kanoff ’13 in the third

The Wolverines finish their season with St. Paul next Friday, Nov. 11.

Hooks said that the team needs to forget about their performance against
Serra “because losing by 49 is never good,” and move on to next weeks

“We still know we’re a good team and we can still put up points and beat anyone,” he said.
