The boys’ volleyball team defeated Crespi 3-1 at home Tuesday night. The Wolverines’ current records are 5-4 in league play and 6-7-1 overall.

“It’s a team effort and I think everyone did their part,” setter and Chronicle staff writer Will Mallory ’20 said. “The whole team came in with a lot of intensity and poise. We wanted revenge against this team, and we fought hard and got what we wanted.”

Although previously dropping a match to Crespi in March, the Wolverines seeked redemption and were able to rout the Celts.  Throughout the duration of the first set, the score remained even; either team only leading by one or two points. The Wolverines dropped the first set 26-24. The Wolverines won three sets in a row, 25-23, 25-17, and 25-23 respectively.

“It feels really good to beat a team we’ve previously lost a close game to,” outside hitter Jasper Richards ’20 said. “We came together as a team, but we still have a lot we need to work on.”

After placing first in pool play and second in the gold division playoffs at the Sylmar Charter tournament, the Wolverines had little to no time to reboot and replenish. However, the tournament served as extra practice, preparing the team for league games. The team heavily improved offensively and communicated more sufficiently.

“The bench was calling things and there was so much talking on the court too. Communication was extremely key,” outside hitter Jack Nordstrom ’19 said. “Will [Mallory ‘20], our setter, communicates so well and is very effective during the games.”

The Wolverines’ next match will be April 26 at Notre Dame, a team they previously defeated 3-1.

“We’re going to keep playing how we’re playing,” Mallory said. “This game went really well and I think we’re picking up stride right where we need to. We have Notre Dame up next, who we beat already, but they were missing a lot of their players. We need to come out with a fierce mentality and get the win on that one too.”
