Boys’ basketball shocked by Alemany on Senior Night

    By Alex Leichenger

Turnovers and torrid Alemany three-point shooting did in the boys’ basketball team Wednesday night in an 82-75 loss at Taper Gym.

The defeat dropped the Wolverines to 10-2 in the Mission League and denied them sole ownership of the league championship, which they will now share with Loyola.

Featuring a starting lineup of all upperclassmen on Senior Night, the Wolverines controlled the flow of the game throughout the first half. Two days after hitting the game-winning layup in an overtime win at Crespi, Jordan Butler ’11 had the hot hand in the half, scoring 14 points and hitting four three-pointers.

The Wolverines led 53-42 midway through the third quarter, but after they missed opportunities to put the game away for good, Alemany suddenly caught fire. Fueled by a swarm of three-point baskets and sloppy ball-handling by the Wolverines, the Warriors went on a 25-5 run that gave them a 67-58 lead with six minutes to play.

Zena Edosomwan ’12 hit several shots in the post to carry the Wolverines back late in the fourth quarter, but the rally was not enough.

Alemany improved to 7-5 in the Mission League with the victory.
