Boys’ cross country place second in state championship

    By Julius Pak

The CIF champion boys’ cross country team finished second in the Division IV state championship at Fresno’s Woodward Park this morning.

The Wolverines lost to the North Coast Section’s champion, San Rafael, by only 10 points, 130-140. The Wolverines’ collective time of the five scoring runners was 1:22:38. San Rafael’s collective time was 1:22:31.

Kevin On ’11 was the top finisher for the boys, placing 13th overall. Last year, the boys’ team finished in fifth place.

The girls’ cross country team, last year’s Division IV state champion, was unable to reclaim its title.

Although Cami Chapus ’12 finished first out of the 188 runners in Division IV, the loss of Amy Weissenbach ’12 to injury had a larger impact on the team. Weissenbach finished fourth in last year’s state finals.

The three teams that defeated the girls, JSerra (75), La Reina (147), and Flintridge Sacred Heart (183), were easily defeated earlier in the season. The Wolverines scored 186 points.
