Educational consultant to lead workshops on diversity for faculty, staff

Educational consultant Derrick Gay will lead workshops on diversity at Faculty Professional Growth Day on Nov. 12. Gay has worked with independent schools for 17 years teaching languages and serving as a senior administrator.

The lectures and discussions will include ways to reframe diversity discourse and progress towards a society that is accepting of all identities, Gay said.

“The aim of these meetings is to… engage in an interactive day of reflection regarding the implications of diversity for teaching and learning,” Gay said in an email to faculty and staff.

Gay first visited school on Sept. 26 to meet faculty and staff representing various perspectives on diversity and to explain the framework for his workshop.

Faculty and staff were also encouraged to fill out an anonymous survey about the current state of diversity at school and community goals.

“The ultimate goal of this work is… to foster a society where all individuals indeed have equal access to flourish,” Gay said in an email.
