The girls’ varsity basketball team fell to St. Bernard’s and beat Taft High School Thursday in the Inglewood Tournament after a power outage caused by fierce winds interrupted Wednesday’s game against St. Bernard.
In the third quarter, with the Wolverines down 29-41, the gym lights and scoreboard shut off. The game had to be continued the next day. The girls caught up, trailing only by 6 but after captain Leslie Schuman ’12 fouled out in the fourth quarter, they lost 43-61.
“We need to cut down on our turnovers,” Head Coach Melissa Hearlihy said.
Two hours later, the girls played their scheduled game against Taft High School, outscoring them by 16 points with the final score of 53-37. One of the Daily News’ players to watch captain and guard Natalie Florescu ’13 scored 23 points.
“We made adjustments to help run our offense,” Florescu said. “We started making our jump shots and raised our confidence.”
