Girls' tennis advances to CIF semifinals

The girls’ varsity tennis team will play in the league finals today at Los Angeles Valley College. The team breezed into finals yesterday after both doubles teams and singles players beat out their opponents.

The girls advanced after Monday’s Senior Day, beating Alemany 16-2. They swept up the league title and won every match by at least ten wins.

“I can count the number of Mission League losses [over the last 11 years] on one hand,” Head Coach Chris Simpson said. “Unfortunately, the Mission League this season hasn’t really tested us.”

Simpson has realistic expectations for the CIF playoffs this year.
“Our singles players are mostly in development,” Simpson said. “If we get to quarterfinals against a public school with 8, 900 kids that’s pretty good considering we don’t recruit.”

Doubles teams Kristina Park ’13 and Taylor Coon ’12 and Kei Goldberg ’12 and Sophie Gunther ’14 and beat Chaminade and singles players Savannah de Montesquieu and Margeaux Craske- Curtin ’14 beat players from Alemany and Notre Dame.

“I’m really excited to see how far we can get this year,” Park said.

“If we lose that playoff match it doesn’t mean the season is over,” Simpson said. “For a lot of girls, it’s just begun.”
