Students throwing pies at Head of School Audrius Barzdukas, as well as announcements about March Madness and the Community Service Week and the Festival of Spring highlighted Wednesdayâ€™s assembly.
La Femme leaders selected Wolfgang Novogratz â€™16 and Rasa Barzdukas â€™17 to throw pies at Audrius Barzdukas to celebrate that the club reached a fundraising goal of $1,500 for charity Lindaâ€™s Voice. Audrius Barzdukas had previously agreed to be â€śpiedâ€ť if the club reached that goal.
Prefect Council screened a video promoting the March Madness charity bracket, which is a combination of both March Madness tournaments and Community Service Week. At the end of this week, a student-selected charity will receive a donation of $1,000.
â€śRight now in first place we have the Special Olympics, next is Heal the Bay and tied for third is Habitat for Humanity and Justin Carrâ€™s Dare to Dream Workshop,â€ť Community Council member Cole Kawana â€™16 said.
Additionally, tomorrow and Friday in Taper Gymnasium, March Madness games will be shown throughout the day. There will also be various other games and snacks available for students.
Members of the Community and Character Committee encouraged students to form teams for the Festival of Spring, which will take place March 24. The festival will include activities and games such as kickball, dodgeball, sudoku and karaoke.
Jenna Thompson â€™16 reminded students to purchase tickets for Westflix, as only 50 remain for the Friday screening. The film festival will be Friday at 7 p.m., and Saturday there will be workshops for students and faculty with guest speakers including screenwriter Aaron Sorkin (Julia ’19) and producer Alexandra Milchan (Jagger Lambert ’21) at the Arclight Cinerama Dome in Hollywood.
Javi Arango â€™16 announced a piano concert from 4HandsLA to take place on Sunday in Ahmanson in lieu of Cinema Sundays. 4HandsLA aims to combine classical piano with contemporary music, with two pianists playing at once, Arango said.
Nathan Lee â€™16 and Rian Ratnavale â€™17 urged students to volunteer for a track event with Special Olympics participants, which will occur on April 23.
