The field hockey team defeated Marina High School 2-0 at home in the Tournament of Champions (TOC) semifinal Oct. 26. Layout Assistant and Staff Writer and midfielder Kayla Graff ’26 and forward Savannah Mashian ’24 scored the team’s goals in the first and second quarter, respectively, moving the team to 13-2-1 in the year.

Forward Hannah Carbunaru ’24 said the team’s defense was crucial in their win against Marina.

“Our defense was great,” Carbunaru said. “We only won because we maintained possession and stopped the other team before they could really advance. There was one girl on the other team that is known to be a great player, yet we shut her down before she could really do anything. Defense has been a big theme on our team this year, and we did a great job implementing our training.”

Carbunaru said she is looking forward to her final game of her high school season.

“I am so happy we won,” Carbunaru said. “I am sad that field hockey is almost over and that we played our last home game, but I had so much fun and I loved getting to know everyone on the team so well.”

The team’s final game of the season will be the TOC Championship game against Newport Harbor High School at Great Oak High School in Temecula on Oct. 28.
