The First and Third Assembly on Wednesday highlighted student events taking place at the Upper School in the first two weeks of March, including a dance concert, a film screening, a March Madness community service event and a speakers series.

Members of Advanced Dance II encouraged students to attend their dance concert “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” in Rugby Theatre this weekend. Promoting the event by having students search for golden tickets, they reminded students to buy tickets online or out in the quad. Showtimes are Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 4:30 p.m.

Javier Arango ’16 and Henry Muhlheim ’16  announced a screening of the 2015 film “The End of the Tour,” starring Jason Segel ’98, at the next Cinema Sundays event Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Ahmanson Lecture Hall. Segel will discuss the movie and answer questions after the screening.

Prefect Council will hold the annual March Madness bracket challenge March 14-18 culminating with a live streaming of the tournament March 18 in Taper Gym.

“March Madness is a chance for us to come together and watch the NCAA tournament streamed live right here in Taper,” Prefect Cate Wolfen ’16 said.

Students can turn in their bracket predictions to compete against Team Bot, a collection of HW students that make their predictions using analytical tools and data. Students who wish to be on Team Bot should contact math teacher Bill Thill.

New this year will be a charity bracket in which the top two student-selected charities are paired with the top two seeded student teams. At the end of March Madness the winning team will be awarded $1000 to be donated to their charity.

After encouraging eligible students to register to vote for the upcoming elections, Michael Swerdlow ’16 of the Society of Global Affairs announced a speaker series event exploring cutting-edge technology and featuring speakers including Walt Disney Animation’s president Andrew Millstein on Sunday March 20.

The Student Athletics Advisory Council announced Hannah Elliot ’16 of the girls’ water polo team and Max Rolnick ’16, captain of the boys’ soccer team, as the Student Athletes of the Month for February.
