The school hosted a screening of “The Hunting Ground,” a documentary about incidences of sexual assault on college campuses in the United States, in Ahmanson Lecture Hall Thursday.

The documentary emphasizes the failures of some college administrations to handle these situations.

“I personally enjoyed the movie screening of ‘The Hunting Ground’ and I felt more aware about sexual abuse and harassment at universities,” Daniel Varela ’18 said. “It’s often a topic that is silenced, but is common knowledge to everyone. The movie screening was very informative about the aspects of how universities run like businesses and tend to victimize the aggressor.”

Kirby Dick wrote and directed the film, which premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival.

Complimentary pizza, coffee and cookies were offered to the students attending the screening.

The screening was originally scheduled Monday, but was postponed to 5:00 p.m. Thursday.

“I felt enraged of how the heads of these well known universities silenced the victims in order to protect their brand name,” Varela said. “The thought of imagining myself, a friend, a peer or my sibling going through what these victims suffered through is appalling and it definitely strikes a conversation with my friends and I afterwards.”

The school also screened the film last year during Senior Transition Day, but after the projector broke the Class of 2015 participated in an impromptu discussion about sexual assault.
