Club holds card-bake sale for Direct Relief

The Cards for Humanity club held a card-bake sale Monday to raise money for Direct Relief, a charity that provides emergency medical services to people impacted by poverty and emergency situations, as well as support for existing and fragile health systems.

At the sale, club members sold hand-made cards featuring artwork from the student body, as well as baked goods and donuts. Club leader Vivian Lu ’18 said that the club’s goal is to promote student artwork on campus while utilizing the artists’ creativity to benefit the community-at-large.

“We’ve had an influx of new members (particularly sophomores), which means that there are a lot more perspectives and variety in artwork… everyone’s been super dedicated and enthusiastic about using their artwork to fundraise,” Lu said.

Students said they appreciated the diversity of student artwork, and club leader Anna Gong ’18 said the cards were “an interesting facet of fundraising.”

According to its website, Direct Relief has been involved in efforts to aid those affected by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria. The organization also focuses on maternal health, general disease prevention and support for fragile health systems.
