The baseball team capped its regular season with a 6-2 victory over Dos Pueblos on Tuesday. Ranked third in the southland in a Los Angeles Times article published Sunday, the Wolverines will enter the playoffs on a five-game winning streak.

In their final regular season tuneup, the Wolverines relied on their bullpen arms to pitch the game. Right-handed pitcher Sam Peacock ’17, normally a reliever, started the game before giving way to the team’s usual third starter, Ben Geiger ’17. Because playoff weeks only contain two games, rather than the three played during the regular season, the Wolverines’ projected starting rotation is comprised of right-handers Jesse Bergin ’18 and Sam Hliboki ’19, with Geiger expected to pitch out of the bullpen.

Relievers Mikey Golob ’19, Nick Locke-Henderson ’18 and Nico Manucci ’17 also saw action.  The Wolverine pitchers combined for six strikeouts, surrendering two runs on five hits. Outfielder R.J. Schreck paced the offense with two hits and a home run.

“Approach-wise, we were just looking to go up there, beat a good team and get some more confidence heading into the home stretch,” left-handed reliever Adam Rich ’17 said. “Just stay in rhythm and handle our business, just like it’s been all year.”

The victory over Dos Pueblos comes on the heels of a series sweep against Crespi last week, in which the squad scored 23 runs in three games.

The playoff bracket is expected to become public on Saturday with information on the Wolverines’ next matchup.
