Dean Strauser ’24 looks to score against the JSerra defense during Homecoming on Oct. 7.

The varsity boys’ water polo team lost to JSerra Catholic High School 15-13 during the school’s 2023 Homecoming game on Oct. 7th. This marks the third time the team has lost to JSerra this year. The team now has a total record of 12-5, with a league record of 3-0.

Center Benjamin Boateng ’25 said the team is still inspired and had some good takeaways from the game despite the loss.

“I think our team needs to remember the things that put us in the best shape to beat [JSerra],” Boateng said. “I think we’re going to see them again, and we’re going to have many opportunities to beat this team. I don’t think we should get discouraged at all. Instead, we should be using this loss as motivation just to help us be better next time, because I know eventually we will [beat JSerra], and we shouldn’t give up yet.”

Boateng said that the team worked especially hard for a win during the Homecoming game.

“We’ve been beaten by JSerra for a pretty long time,” Boateng said. “I think we were hungry for a win. We wanted [a win] more than anything. We wanted to put ourselves in the best position to win, and I think there’s so much more our team can show and we’re going to show that soon.”

The team will compete in the North vs. South Challenge hosted by Sacred Heart Preparatory on Oct. 12-14.
