The Wolverines defeated the Newbury Park Panthers 73-56 in the first round of the Calabasas Tournament. The game signified not only the debut of Head Coach David Rebibo, but also the first appearance for freshman phenom Cassius Stanley ’19 and he did not disappoint.
After the Wolverines trailed the Panthers 17-11 early in the game, Harvard-Westlake regained the lead, behind the superb play of Stanley and never looked back.
At the half, the Wolverines only led 31-27, but continually grew their lead throughout the second half, and eventually put away the pesky Panthers.
In the third quarter, Ali Iken ’17 scored 14 of his 16 total points and propelled the Wolverines to a 52-37 lead at the end of three.
By night’s end Stanley ended up leading the scoring with 18 points, along with 14 rebounds and five assists to cap off an impressive debut for both he and Rebibo. Wolfgang Novogratz ’16 chipped in with 14 points, and Carter Begel ’17 added 10 in the 73-56 victory.
The Wolverines will attempt to build on this success when they face off against Moorpark in the Calabasas Tournament tomorrow night.
