Coming off of an undefeated streak in regular season play, the girls’ water polo team had an underwhelming performance at the 2017 Southern California Championship on Feb. 2-4.
After dominating the Mission League, the Wolverines struggled against teams in higher divisions, ending the tournament with a 3-2 record and placing 25th out of 32 teams.
In the first round, the squad fell to Dos Pueblos 13-2, and went on to lose against Coronado 14-6 in the next. The squad won its next two games against Edison 6-4 and Woodrow Wilson Classical 8-3. In their final match, the Wolverines beat Long Beach Polytechnic 7-5 to take 25th place overall.
The players said they hope to improve upon their performance and prepare for the Mission League tournament on Feb. 7-9, in which the players will compete for the Mission League title.
